ETUC New Partner in Fairtrans – Strengthening Union Collaboration on Climate Action

As Fairtrans advances its EU-wide research and social outreach in phase two of the programme, a new partnership with the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) ensures that the programme’s research on fair climate transformations is firmly rooted in the realities of workers and unions across the EU – strengthening the link between scientific insight and practical policy development.

The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) was founded in 1973 and comprises 94 national trade union confederations in 42 countries, plus 10 European trade union federations.

The ETUC aims to strengthen the voice of European workers in EU decision-making, improve the wellbeing of workers and their families, and defend fundamental social values such as solidarity, equality, democracy, social justice and cohesion. Regarding climate, the confederation fights for action to combat climate change while promoting a just transition for workers.

“Fairtrans gives us the opportunity to engage with leading research while shaping concrete policies that protect workers’ rights, create quality jobs, and guarantee that the shift to a decarbonised future is genuinely fair. This partnership strengthens our ability to deliver a just transition for all”, says Ludovic Voet, Confederal Secretary of the ETUC.

“We are delighted to welcome ETUC as a partner in Fairtrans. Their deep understanding of the realities facing workers across Europe adds an essential dimension to our mission of shaping fair and effective climate transformations”, says Stephan Barthel, Programme Director of Fairtrans.
